As of the time this article was written, the last operation occurred 758 days ago, setting a new record. This surpasses Operation Shattered Web, which was released after a delay of 735 days.
Taking into account the last mentioned example, such a delay was completely unjustified. At the time, Valve seemingly neglected the content for reasons that remain unclear. Regardless, we all wonder when the next operation in CS2 will be, theorizing based on hidden files and lines of code within the game.
As of now, the latest content in the game includes the Kilowatt case, new Major stickers, which is quite logical, but most importantly, a new game whose development required a significant amount of time. Foremost, the new engine present in CS2 greatly simplifies the development of content necessary for releasing an operation.
This gives us hope that, after some time has passed since the PGL Major Copenhagen, we will see something new and revolutionary, and most importantly, interesting, rather than just missions like “break 200 windows” again. This hope is fueled by the fact that not so long ago, Valve directly engaged with files responsible for comics in the old operations of CS2, leading us to speculate that we will see a narrative with a plot and interesting missions.
Answering the main question of when the first operation in CS2 will be released: we predict it might happen in May, as they have done so before, although this seems unlikely, or perhaps in September or October. We base this on the release data of previous operations in CS:GO, though we hope that Valve will change the cycle and will release seasonal events.
