Setting an FPS limit in CS2 is quite simple. All you need to do is enable the console (you can learn how to do that here) and then press the (/~) key, which is located below the ESC key. After that, enter the console command fps_max 400 – for example, if you want to limit your FPS to 400 frames per second.

You might also be interested in how to correctly limit FPS, and we’ll say right away that there is no clear answer, as it is quite individual, just like with other settings, and here’s why.

Limiting FPS is practiced even on very powerful computers because fluctuations in frame rates on your monitor can feel unpleasant, even if the fluctuations are from 400 to 600 FPS. Additionally, in most cases, this reduces latency and makes the game feel smoother. However, this is all individual, and if everything works perfectly for you, you can easily test fps_max 0. This command removes any FPS limits altogether.

In most cases, you should focus on your minimum FPS. For example, if your FPS rarely drops below 300, then set fps_max 300. If it frequently drops below that, set a lower value. The logic here is to minimize frame rate fluctuations. Your goal is to achieve a consistent and stable frame rate.
