Steam has several channels (servers) that are automatically assigned based on your region. These servers are often overloaded, especially during peak activity hours of Steam users. As a result, this can lead to an unpleasant drop in your connection speed. This is not an issue with your internet provider; the heavy load creates a sort of bottleneck that prevents your internet from performing at its full potential.

To fix this, you simply need to test a few regions and determine which one offers the most stable download speed for you. To do this, first, go to Steam settings by clicking on the corresponding button in the top-left corner of the screen.

In the new window, select the Downloads tab. Here, you’ll see an option to choose from the available servers. It’s recommended to start with servers from your continent to avoid data traveling through multiple smaller channels.

In my case, Lviv is geographically closer to me, but I get better speeds using the Odesa region. Test different options and enjoy the full potential of your internet connection!
